Yes Brian, I've always considered MARSDEN to be the modern accepted version of
a similar name such as:
MARSTYN
MASTYN
MARSTIN
MARSTON
MARSTEN
MASLIN
MASLEN possibly
MARSLEY

I have always considered the Joseph MARSDEN (sic) to have been an
itinerant ag lag, perhaps of Irish origin.
Family tradition (via Viv Ward) had it that Joseph was an ag lab on
Thallooqueen, somewhat confirmed by the marriage:
