Re: Barry
In Response To: Re: Barry ()

I'm not sure if your grandfather was James or Christopher? According to Brian Lawson's birth index all the Barrys were born in Douglas. There is an early James Barry in the IGI, christened either 14 Sep 1871 St Barnabas or 14 Sep 1872 St Matthews, both entries with the same parents, Joseph Barry and Sarah. This James appears in the 1881 census in West Derby (Liverpool), living with an uncle, William Henry Barry. He appears again in 1891 in the IOM census living in Church Street, Douglas
Sarah Barry, head, 37, widow, charwoman
James " 19, plasterer's labour
Sarah " 18
Joseph " 14
John " 5
I haven't seen him in the 1901 census yet. This birthdate would make him rather old as your grandfather, but not impossible. Do you know how old he was when he died?
Of course, it is all speculative. You would know for sure if you order a birth certificate for your father, and then a marriage certificate for your grandfather.
Good luck!
