Mid-18th century Irish fleeing to I o Man

Hi - Have now been in touch with living Ronans on I of M. There is a family story that John Rone (Ronan) came in a boat from Ireland with his 2 sons, landing on Chapel Beach, Port St Mary. He subsequently married Margery Hutchin.

It is thought he was Catholic and was escaping religious persecution. I have read somewhere that most of the Irish folk coming to I of M at that time came from Ulster.

Anyone know if this is true? Many thanks. Liz
