Ann Redpath (47) first appeared in IoM 1851 Cen, a widow in Braddan with daughters Ann , Margaret, Eleanor, Mary and Elizabeth; all b.Ireland. In 1861 Ann was “occupier of 15 acres of land” on Intack in Patrick with 3 sons: Alexander (32, farmer), James (30, farmer) and John (22, Ag Lab); all b.Co Down.
In 1871 Ann Redpath (66) was housekeeper for son James (41) farmer at Enemona Farm in Onchan. Also there was James’ niece, Elizabeth Clarke (11, b.Patrick, the illegitimate daughter of Eleanor Redpath (IGI)).
In 1881 Ann (Agnes) Redpath was still housekeeper for son James, farmer at Whitestrand, German. Eliza J Clarke (21, niece) was a dairy maid & James Hinds (15, nephew – son of Mary Redpath /James Hinds) was a farm assistant.
Agnes? Redpath (75?) buried Braddan on 11MAR1885.
Alexander Redpath m. Catherine Fargher of Malew in 1861 & had at least seven children. They moved to Lambfell Farm, German around 1866/7. By 1881 they were at Ballavaish Farm German. In 1891 He was a widower farming in German at Vaish Moor. Will 1913 German 266 -shortly to be on Brian Lawson's site.
James Redpath never married; he farmed at Patrick, Onchan, German and Kirk Michael between 1860 and 1906, when he died aged 74 buried German.
A Margaret Redpath married John Hasting at Patrick on 28th Aug 1858; they were not on the IoM in 1861, nor have they emerged in later census returns.
The last record of Eleanor Redpath appears to be as the mother of Eliza Jane Redpath, c.10th Mar 1860 at Patrick, no father given; presumably his name was Clarke. In 1891 and 1901 Eliza Jane Clarke had reverted to the Redpath surname; she was living with her uncle James Redpath. She died aged 69 in 1928
Mary Redpath was living at Balladhoo, Lonan in 1861. With her was Sarah Ann Garrett (niece, 5, b.Bra) – sister Ann’s child. Mary married James Hinds (1840-93) at Lonan in 1862, but they soon moved back to Patrick. Her son James (15) was at his uncle James Redpath’s farm (see above). By 1901 Mary (57) was a widow. Ann Redpath married William Garrett 1851 Braddan and they settled in Peel (descendants still there)
John Redpath married Ann Crellin 1865 German, they eventually settled in Laxey.
