I have reached a dead end with my family tree and wondered if anybody else had any information related to the following:
Mary Elizabeth Cowley (born c.1866, Douglas) is my great great grandmother, married to John Quine (born c.1855, Douglas) who part owned three shoe shops with somebody named Shimmin (the name of the shop was Quine and Shimmin).
I have reached a blank with Mary Elizabeth Cowleys side of the tree, from census records and IGI's i have found that her father was John Cowley (b. about 1835 in Mayo, Ireland) and her mother was called Annie (unknown maiden name, born about 1835 in Ireland)
Other siblings of Mary's are:
Margaret Cowley - born c.1869 Douglas
Ellen Louisa cowley - born c.1872 Douglas
James Edward Cowley - born c.1880 Douglas
I have searched the Irish and Manx IGI's and can't find out anymore about John Cowley or Annie (unknown).
The only thing that may be a lead is that one of John and Mary's children was called Joseph Baldwin Quine (1897-1981, Douglas). Baldwin being an Irish name and the fact that Baldwin does not appear in the tree on Quine side, it could be on the Cowley side. However, Baldwin being a place in the Isle of Man may have been a reason to pick that name as a middle name.
