William Christian and Christiana Bridson

Hi,

I am trying to discover the parents and ancestors of William B. Christian Jr., born about 1843 in Isle of Man. He married a Sarah Etta Sackett in El Dorado County, California, in 1867. Family legend is that his middle name was Barkley.

I have discovered that his father William Christian, a Baker, b. abt. 1819 Isle of Man, came to New York in 1849 (on ship Garrick) and was living in El Dorado County during the 1850 census. In 1860, he was listed with his son W B Christian, age 17. In 1870 and 1880, he was living with his daughter Margaret, b. abt 1842 Isle of Man, and her husband William Cole, in El Dorado County.

Based on a search of the IGI for Isle of Man, I could only match William B and Margaret, to a couple William Christian and Christiana Bridson who married in 1841 at Marown. Margaret and William Bridson Christian were baptized at St. Matthews in Douglas in 1842 and 1844 respectively. No other children for this couple were identified.

Can anyone please confirm that I have this identification correct?

Further, I suspect that Christiana died before 1849 when William came to America. Does anyone have a burial record for Christiana? Or know more about her family?

I believe that William B and Margaret came to America later.

I believe that I found William living with Daniel and Jane Creer in the 1851 Census as a nephew. Jane Christian married Daniel Creer in 1832 in Bradden. I found a matching Jane and William Christian as children of John Christian and Catharine Quine.

Can anyone confirm this?

I found a Margaret Christian living in Malew with a Bridson cousin in 1851 Census. I have not worked out this relationship yet.

Can anyone help with this family?

Thanks in advance,
