LYNCHEY, LYNCHY. LYNCH

Can anyone please assist me in finding details of my LYNCHEY family?

Sarah LYNCHEY was convicted at Castle Rushen in 1833 and transported to Australia in 1835.

She was listed as a widow, a Catholic and born in County Down.

She took 2 daughters and a son with her to OZZ and another son was noted as left behind, apparently too old to accompany his mother (ie over 8 years). I think that the son left behind may have been Andrew LYNCHEY who in 1841 married Jane IRVINY or IRVINE at Ballaugh with the consent of his guardian William QUAYLE. Andrew became the proprietor of a ships store business in Douglas and lived at 2 Drinkwater ST. he also owned a house and premises in Castle Market Street in Douglas and a dwelling house and premises
in Mill Street in the Town of Castletown

I have tried to find details of Sarah’s husband who may have been part of the garrison on the IoM, I understand that the army sent Scots and Irish Gaelic speakers who could converse with those speaking Manx Gaelic.

There are no details on Brian LAWSON’S BDM lists and I have tried the Catholic administration who I have found do not acknowledge enquiries.

I have fairly extensive details on what transpired once this little group arrived in OZZ, one daughter became my GG grandmother. I do not know for certain if Andrew was the son left behind and I know nothing of Sarah’s husband at all.

In OZZ they have been recorded as LYNCHEY, LYNCHY, and LYNCH with the “Y” sometimes being replaced with an “I”.

This is one of my ongoing brickwalls, I really would appreciate any assistance there is out there.
