I don't think James will be the son of James Scarffe and Catherine Kneal. In the 1833 Episc will for James Scarffe, there is a petition of John Scarffe Lonan, brother. "James died some time ago a bachelor, intestate". "James Scarffe the father appointed admin".
There is a Lonan burial of James Scarffe 28 Nov 1831 age 27. This fits very well with the will and also to the 1804 baptism to James & Catherine.
I favour Lynda's James to be the son of Thomas Scarffe & Eleanor Kewley bapt 23 Jan 1803 in Lonan. Unfortunately the census ages for James and his family are all over the map, as Donna points out. The father Thomas matches the Lonan burial in 1839 age 76 but it doesn't look like there is a will for him. The mother Eleanor lived to a ripe age, and likely matches the burial in Lonan in 1853 "from Douglas, buried in Lonan, age 93". In 1851 she is a widow age 90 with son William in Douglas. No will for her either.
We had an earlier discussion on this. I think it was a month or two back.
The Santon reference is odd. It could be a transcription error, or maybe he worked there for awhile.
