Re: corkill great grandfather
In Response To: Re: corkill great grandfather ()

Hi Greg,

Where I wrote "Two possible Robert Cs b.c.1820 were bapt in Maughold 29 Aug 1819 (son of Robert Corkill & Esther Looney), and 11 June 1820 (son of Peter Corkill & Elinor Clague)", that was the parish - Maughold. The baptisms come from a transcript of the original church volumes.

You need to look at a parish map of the IOM to know what people on this board are writing about - there are several online.
If you use the search function on Frances Coakley's website you will find out a lot about Maughold parish. See: http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/

The marriage in Maughold which Lionel suggested could be that of your ancestors has:
21 Oct 1865
Robert CORKILL, Full age, Bachelor, [occupation] Smith, [residence] Ramsey, [father] Robert Corkill, Smith ~ to ~
Jane KENNISH, Full age, Spinster, [residence] Ramsey, [father] William Kennish, Farmer.

Ramsey is a town which is partly in Maughold parish and a smaller part in Lezayre parish. So some records are in Ramsey church records, many are in Maughold, like the above, and (fewer) are in Lezayre.
