Re: Sayle family from Bride, IOM

There was definitely a paucity of names in "the name pool" from which those 19th century Sayles named their children. Right? Oh, just noticed that you're a John as well... :)

Looking at the 1851 Manx Census, it catalogued 3 Thomas (including one Thos) Sayles born in Bride: one about 1815, one about 1840 and one about 1844.

The oldest Thomas Sayle had moved from Bride to Lonan and the census indicates he was working in the mine there. He was married and raising his own family.

The one born in 1840 may be your ancestor since his father is John and Mother is Jane. John was an Agricultural Labourer.

In my tree I claimed the third one as my Great Uncle, since his father, John Sayle, was a Stone Mason as repeated in other Censuses. Plus my grandfather shows up in this family in the 1851 Census as a 3 year old.

All of three of these families probably have common linkage in their grandparents or great grandparents but those records are harder to find since they were from the pre-census days. I haven't gone back further than John Sayle (b. 1796) and Ann Cowle (b. 1807)

I can send you my Sayle Gedcom file is you'd like... My email address is "ralph AT sayle . ca", just remove blanks, etc.
