I am due to visit the Isle Of Man in late March and would greatly appreciate a look-up of Cemeteries for my list of Ancestors:
1. GG GFather James Burnett (Retired Light Keeper)
Died 22nd or 25th October 1885 in Kirk Michael.
2. GG GMother Catherine Burnett (Widow of James)
Died 4th April 1906, Homeleigh House, Kirk Michael
(1883 listed as running Grocers in Michael Village) (Is Homeleigh House still in Michael?)
3. GGG GMother Janet/Jannet Burnett (Wife of GGG GFather Alexander Burnett - Light Keeper Point Of Ayre Lighthouse)
Died 23 February 1831 Kirk Bride(Point Of Ayre)
4. Great Uncle Robert Alexander Burnett (Manager Old Swan Hotel Ramsey)
Died 20th July 1925 Maughold
5. Great Aunt Esther Elizabeth Burnett (Wife of Robert Alexander Burnett)
Died 16th July 1914 Maughold
6. GUncle Robert Edward Burnett
(29 Church Street, Ramsey in 1901)
Died 26th March 1956 Maughold
My G GFather, John James Burnett ran his own Aerated Mineral Water company Promenade, Ramsey listed in 1883. (2 Market Square, Maughold in 1881 Census)
G Uncle Robert Alexander Burnett ran the Old Swan Hotel, Ramsey in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s. His son Norman died in France 1916 WW1 Lancashire Fusiliers. I understand my Father was named after him (born later in 1916)
My father Norman Burnett was placed in the National Children’s Home (circa 1918-1920) somewhere on the Isle Of Man.
Can you suggest where this might be?
Any other 'Burnett Records/Burials' you may have listed for these parishs please?
I am visting IOM in March this year for a few days and would love to know if I can see an ancestor's final resting place if listed on your records?
The Burnett's are recorded in 1800/1900s at Kirk Michael, Maughold, Ramsey
Districts and Point Of Ayre and Chickens Lighthouses.
I really appreciate anything you might be able to suggest/find for my trip?
Sorry if its too much detail!!!
Andrew Burnett
