Captain William CORKILL d.1858 Ramsey

Does anyone know anything about Captain William CORKILL of the steamer Gen. Sir James Outram? This is inscribed on his gravestone, as well as that he was of Ramsey, and died 6 September 1858, aged 50 years.

Unless there were two William Corkills of Ramsey who died within a few days of each other his burial reads: William Corkill aged 50, of St Paul's Square, Ramsey, buried Maughold 9 Sep 1858.

This William married Jane CARRAN of Douglas who remained at the same address as a widow in 1861.

What is very strange is that the 1841 & 1851 censuses have William's occupation as Butcher.

Butcher, or Captain of the steamer Gen. Sir James Outram? Could he possibly have been both?

The only additional clue to this being the same man, is that when William & Jane's daughter Isabella married underage in 1864 her father was given as William Corkill, mariner.

Thanks for any ideas.
