There is some confusion in the above messages. The John Corkill recorded in Manx Worthies as having served in the Royal Navy was from Ballagorry Mooar, Maughold, and returned to the IOM. He wasn't the one Alison is looking for - though of course there may have been other John Corkills in the navy, being a pretty common name.
