My Auntie, Muriel WATERSON [not WATTERSON], received the following letter a few days ago, from a John R MAW of 114 Cottingham Drive, Moulton, Northampton, Northants NN3 7LG - CAN ANYONE HELP WITH HIS ENQUIRY?: ...................."My daughter and I are interested in genealogy and are trying to obtain as much information as possible regarding my maternal Grandfather - John Jacob SHEPHERD who was born on 29 June 1867 in Port Erin, Isle of Man and died on 31 March 1930 in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire (ie. before I was born).
He married Sarah Jane PARKER (born 2 April 1871 in Hawkshead, Cumbria and died on 11 December 1958 in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire) on 5 June 1889 in Whitehaven, Cumbria.
Very briefly John Jacob left the Isle of Man to work in Cumbria as an engine fitter. He was a keen athlete and an accomplished 'Fell runner' in the Lake District. His father (my great grandfather) was a William SHEPHERD, a butcher by trade in Port Erin, who married a Catherine WATERSON.
John Jacob had 4 sisters - Eleanor, Blanche, Kate & Jane and 3 brothers - Robert, Joseph & William (birth and death dates unknown).
If any of the foregoing sound familiar and you think you may be related, however distant, then any information eg. Births, deaths, marriages, offspring, occupations etc. etc. would be greatly appreciated................."
IF ANY OF THE ABOVE DETAILS MEAN ANYTHING TO ANYONE OUT THERE CAN YOU PLEASE EITHER E-MAIL ME AND I WILL PASS THEN ONTO MR,. MAW VIA MY AUNTIE or YOU CAN OBVIOUSLY CONTACT HIM DIRECT AT THE ADDRESS STATED.
Many Thanks
