Hi,
I have been perusing my grandmother's address book and trying to make sense of the names in there. I'd welcome any clues to any of the CORLETT, CROWE, CLUCAS, CAINE, CANNELL, CAHIN, COWLEY and KERMODES plus an intriguing TAYLOR that could go to Kermode or QUALTROUGH. All of these contacts were current in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.
I show no record of my grandmother having any Aunts by the name of Ethel, or Uncles who would be Jim Taylor on her Qualtrough or Kermode side, but there is an Uncle Jim Taylor, of Liverpool, and Mrs. Taylor was Ethel and a correspondent with my mother, but then she married Dennis Bullock and the address is Birmingham. There is a reference in letters to Agnes and Maggie Taylor, which might be children of Jim and Ethel, and there's mention of Nellie Taylor Saxon with no clear link. There is also a Lucy and Henry who must have married in the time of the letter and Mary, and the references sound again as if they might be children. Does anyone recognize these Taylors?
Frank Kermode, also identified as J.F. Kermode, was a Lt. on the HMS Leonian (?) during WWII. Who were his parents? What became of him?
Jack P. Kermode lived in Douglas. Who might he be? It lists near his name that a child Mary Kermode was born Oct 2, 1930.
I show two great, great Uncles, a John Kneale Kermode and William Thomas Kermode. Were any of the above known to be related?
I show a great, great aunt Nessy Kermode. In my grandmother's book there is a Nessie and Matt Cowley of South Laxey. They are crossed out, I have no idea why. I also found in there a Mrs Nessie Corlett, Lonan, and at the same address Mrs. H. Corlett. I wonder if any of these are relations.
I find both a Mrs. Francis Crowe, of Ramsey, and a Mrs. Frances Corlett Crowe (aka Mrs. W. Crowe) of Douglas. My great great aunt was Frances Jane Kermode ... I don't know if any of these are somehow related.
I have no idea who the Jack Clucas from Onchan, the Christopher Clucas from Surrey, and the John Ernest Clucas from London might be.
I know that Hilda Cashin was my grandmother's first cousin, daughter of Jane Qualtrough and John Cashin. She corresponded with my grandmother as Hilda Cashin Cannell, and Mrs. Albert Cannell. There is also a military (RAF?) address for A.R. Cannell. I don't know if A. and Albert are the same, or if Hilda had any offspring.
There's a Philip Caine in here, no clue where he fits in (perhaps even a friend).
Thanks to anyone who might be able to help!
