Re: GELLING family(I need help with Family Tree)

Hello Peter,

My name is Vick Stafford Deas and I live in Sacramento, California, USA.

I read your message. My grandmother's name is Gladys Hartley Gelling. She was married to James Goldie and they lived in the Peel, IOM area in the 1920's - 1040's. My grandmother was born on December 7, 1907 in Romily, England and died December 9, 1991 in Manchester, England. I know she had at least one brother named Harley because I have a letter he sent to my mother back in 1988 from Stockport, Cheshire, England. My mother immigrated to the USA in May, 1946 as a war bride. Gladys and James had 7 children - my mother, Phyllis Goldie Ingstrom Stafford is the oldest. My grandmother left James Goldie in about 1945 and joined her companion, Alf Killey (not sure of the spelling)in Wythenshawe, Manchester, England, where they lived raising 5 more children until he died. Based on information I've read about the IOM, I don't believe Gladys and James ever divorced. The divorce laws on the IOM were so much diffent back then. She moved back to England and lived with her companion. He stayed on the IOM and lived with his companion named Margaret until he died in 1974. No children from that relationship. I have had no luck tracing the her ancestry - at least through aunts and uncles and family. No one seems to know. No one wants to talk about it and no one wants to pursue the ancestry. It's been very frustrating.

If you or anyone else can help, it would be so very much appreciated.
