1. LAWRENCE1 KELLY was born 1727 in Isle of Man.

Notes for LAWRENCE KELLY:

It is thought he first came to America as a young stowaway who settled first in Virginia. Later on, he learned of an inheritance and returned to the Isle of Man

where he converted his share into cargoes of linen.

On the return trip to America, his ships were forced off course by storms. 

They were overtaken by pirates and Lawrence was taken captive and ended up

in Barbados. He finally escaped on a passing boat and returned to

His estate appraisal in Grayson Co., VA in 1816 lists several valuable

volumes, such as Tucker's Blackstone ($20 for 4 volumes); Chances Reports (6

vol's for $30); Jacob's Law Dictionary (6 volumes), Bacon's Abridgments (7

volumes for $60), encyclopedia, a dictionary, and other scholarly works. 

Farm machinery and cattle also were listed.-File from Joyce Taylor Collins

Per Wilma Johnson at wpjohnson@kih.net, who has furnished information

regarding the KELLYS, PARKERS, SPENCERS, BROWNS and others,

"There are several deeds in Lee Co., Va that prove who mary was. The first

deed is where Hannritter buys land for the children of John KELLY who is

deceased. Another deed/s are where the land was sold and all the children

are named. Mathias KELLY who m. Abigail, is also one of those children. 

He later bought land in Wise Co., VA and ran a store there. The dates on

the Lee Co., VA deeds are in 1829 where Mary Kelly and William BROWN are

named. The pages are 97, 98 and 99. The first deed, where Hannaritter

bought the land for the chldren of John KELLY, deceased, is several years

before the 1829 date.
