No birth, marriage, death certificates before 1874.
Prior to that date you have to rely on parish records which are available through LDS microfilms.

A good starting point is the IGI at www.familysearch.org.

All the Parish records to about 1874 have been indexed by the Mormons and appear in the IGI.
Use with caution and only as a starting point. There are some pretty weird transcriptions.
In additon, several "researchers" have added somewhat spuriors entries. Ignore anything that has "abt" in the date or Mr, Mrs, Miss in the name.
