The best way I know to link generations is finding marriage records that name the parents of the bride and groom. Wills are also useful. If you look for a marriage record in IGI I recommend going to an LDS Church and use their facilities in the search. The Web page does not seem to be complete and in any event IGI is only an index. You have to look into the microfilm of the original document to get all of the information available.
