sorry didn't interpret q that way - yes but the records are in their Naval record (see UK national archives) - will be marked 'pressed', however once they were caught many 'volunteered' as supposedly the pay was better for a volunteer than a pressed man (see www.manxnotebook.com/manxsoc/msvol30/ch05.htm for one account of press gang - this hints at the 'volunteer' strategy - somewhere in my transcribed wills I have a confirmatory account tho the writer adds that it seemed to make little difference in the end
