Hi,

In the 1851 and 1861 census my husbands G G grandmother's (Eunice Kneale) brother was William Kneale born 1813. He married Catherine and put his occupation as 'Captain of the Parish of Lonan'. Forgive my ignorance is it a religious position and how would he have come by it. I notice he says he is a freeholder farmer of 58 acres employing 2. In the 1851 census the next family is the Vicar of the Parish and the 1861 census states the Ecclesiastical District is the Lonan Church.
