I looked at his other renditions of PortErin - his 'a's and 'o's are not that distinct and he seldom writes out the 'i' but has a little dip between the r & n - guess a fast scrawl in pencil - I think it was pronounced more like 'ern' than 'erin'. Must admit the new images (mine are on CD) are much clearer than the Manx Museum microfilm
