If your Steele's have any connection to Whitehaven, Cumberland England, I'd be interested in finding out more? I can't really go back further at present than knowing The birth of Richard Steele in 1828 in Cumberland England (Whitehaven - christenened at Holy Trinity). His father's name was John Steele according to the IGI and mother Christiana Kinley. According to Richard's death certificate his father was Rupert Steele, though the mothers name given was the same (with spelling variation) as for his birth. So if you have any John or Rupert Steele's in your genealogy born before 1828 I'd be interested in knowing more. John and Christiana were married on The Isle of Man in 1827. John died somewhere between 1828 and 1834 (presumably in Cumberland England - and legend has it he'd died in a hunting accident) but I can not find a record of this. Christiana remarried to Thomas Cain on The Isle of Man in 1839, but they'd had a child before this, Robert, born 1834.
Richard Steele migrated to Australia arriving in 1858.
