There is a family living in Ashton U Lyne in 1901 that fits:-

William Teer 40 Manchester, Joiner
Lillian 30 Manchester Machinist
James Les. 9 Manchester
Lillian 6 Manchester
Ethel 3 Manchester

He may be the same William Tear living with his mother Elizabeth, brothers and sisters in Cheetham at 1881.

The two youngest children then were Joseph age 7 and James S. aged 8 months it would be interesting to see who's names were on the birth register or certificate.
