the so called dungeons at castle Rushen are mostly make believe for the children - part was a tidal mill. The lists of prisoners refers to the time Castle Rushen was turned into the gaol of the Island - the cells were above ground ! - the records of all court cases are held by the Manx National Heritage (ie Manx Museum)) who also operate Castle Rushen as a tourist attraction - some brief comments/descriptions are on Manxnotebook
