there is a useful paper at http://www.bikupan.se/tuberculosis/tuberc.html which covers many of the points - That TB went in families was noted in 19th century (& probably earlier) - there is a 19th C paper that looks at the IoM and blames the inbreeding in Manx rural society (obviously today's scientific knowledge was lacking) the causes of consumption with special reference to its prevalence in the IoM by Charles A Davies dated 1899
(I had started scanning it but thought it rather specialised !)
I recall about a year ago that a couple of medical students were researching this topic in Manx Museum - possibly it was a term paper
