Can anyone give me information on the occupants of Ballacowin land perhaps from the 1851 and earlier censuses.
My family is John Quine (born Braddan 16 June 1793) & Margaret Quine (Kelly born Braddan 24 July 1796) who at around 60 years of age moved to a bigger farm at Ballacowin, this seems an unlikely move so late in life unless you had inherited the property.
This is what I know:
Source information: Source 1851 Census Braddan

They appear to have bought more land later as at the time of the 1861 census Margaret, as a widow of 65 years, is recorded as being a farmer of 60 acres living on a farm named Ballacowin in Lonan
Source information: 1861 census Lonan, Colby, Ballacowin
RG9/4423, District 2c, Folio 45, Page 4, Schedule 15
Margaret Quine, Head, Widow, 65, Farmer of 60 acres, Braddan
Thomas Jelly, Son in Law, Married, 32, Farmer, Douglas
Margaret Jelly, Wife [should be 'daughter'?], Married, 42, Farmer's wife, Braddan
Below is additional information that may possibly assist with the inheritance option.
On both censuses living with the family is Benjamin Kneale the child of Isabel Kelly, (Margaret’s sister) who died when the child was just 2 weeks old, he lived with the Quine family for all his childhood.
Margaret Quine was the daughter of William Kelly and Jane Creer
John Quine was the son of Thomas Quine and Isabel Corkill
(The family has no known link to anyone of Cowin name)
A second question on the same couple would anyone know where Tailors Farm mentioned in the 1851 census is located?
