Information requested on whether there was a direct link from the island to Whitehaven (or elsewhere in Cumberland) in the mid 19th century.
My great grandfather, who lived at Patrick, left the island in the 1860s to work as an iron miner at Cleator Moor. He married my great grandmother in Whitehaven and returned with her and a young daughter in the 1880s to settle in Lezayre.
Could they have travelled direct or would they have had to go via Liverpool.
