I believe the two John Sheards in Peel in 1841 are father and son - both were in the army - the elder's first wife I'm guessing died pre 1811 when he found himself stationed in Peel along with his battalion - there he married and had a child (there is also an irish born Julia of the right age to be a daughter living with him in 1841) but his son John by his first marriage also settled in Peel after his discharge but my guess judging from the manx baptism of his (the son's) children he parked them with his father and step mother whilst soldering (his wife may well have lived on Island as well
