I am one-quarter Manx myself and it was always a family rumour that two Goldsmith brothers, one of whom was our ancestor, reached the Isle of Man by rowing across to it from Kirkudbrightshire! Unfortunately I have never been able to find evidence of this, so if anyone has heard this rumour and can give me any information I would be extremely grateful. Or where should I start looking?
