Andrew LINCHEY and guardian William QUAYLE

On 15th June 1841 at Ballaugh Andrew LINCHEY (on other documents Lynchey) married Jane Irving.

It is stated on the filmed records held by the LDS that permission for LYNCHEY to marry was given by “the consent of William Quayle guardian”.

This record gives no information about either Linchey’s or Irving’s parents.

Would there be any other marriage documents, the record refers to “by licence”, or perhaps details of LINCHEY on guardianship documents?

I have copies of both Andrew and Jane’s wills, where they are referred to as Lynchey.

Andrew’s will refers to a daughter Mary married to a James Toohill a draper and living in Liverpool; as well as other children James, Andrew, Charles Robert, Thomas, and Jane.

Wife Jane’s will refers to James Toohill as now (1883) living in Douglas.

For many years before both their deaths Andrew and Jane had lived at 2 Drinkwater Street Douglas, and Andrew had carried on a business as a Marine Store Dealer in Hanover St. Andrew’s death is recorded in an Inquest reported in the Manx Sun 4th October 1879.

I suspect that Andrew was the son of Sarah LYNCHEY (my GGG grandmother) transported with her son Thomas to New South Wales in 1835 after trial for burglary at Castle Rushen. They went separately however she took 2 girls and 1 son with her, leaving a son who was too old to fit the regulations (Boys no older than 8 years, girls no older than 12 years).

The children’s names referred to in the wills fit 3 of the four who went to New South Wales. Mary (my GG grandmother), James and Thomas

Does any of this ring bells?
