All the Manx newspapers are on microfilm at Manx Museum library, I think some are also held by UK newspaper library at Hendon.
The editor of the Manxman, T E Edwardes was a publicity merchant so somewhat prone to exageration - however he was Liverpool based so if you have access to Central Library Liverpool it is probably worth checking there as no doubt he fed the story to them.
