It seems as though Patrick you spoke about was Johns brother. John, i think, is on the 1901 census but as a boarder living in Douglas. I dont know why he was not with his wife? She, Elizabeth was also living in Douglas with their sons, but at a different address as a servant.
In 1891 John i think is registered as Hannay with wife Elizabeth and son John age 1.
Nothing can be found for 1881.
1871 John was 3 living with parents John,age 27, and Margaret Jane, which seems to link in with the Cottier that you advised.
Is there anything for this John Hannah on 1861 or 1851?
