Ken:
I live just up the road from you at Nanaimo.
Try: http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm
scroll down to death registrations and enter Charles Quayle. It will give you the following:
Charles James Quayle
event date: 1914 10 14
age: 32
gender: male
Event place: Victoria
Reg Number: 1914-09-2-029347
BC Archives microfilm number: B13-83
GSU microfilm number 1927293
Take this information to the Archives next door to the museum in Victoria (on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday only). They are very helpful and for the princely sum of +/- 50cents you can make a print of the death registration which gives much more information that the death certificate which also costs much more. The death registration will likely state who the parents of Charles were and a location. This may be all you need to get further back in your tree. Best of luck and happy researching.
