Thank you for your response. My real search is for the daughter - Elizabeth Lawton Unsworth. I am seeking confirmation to establish if it is possible that she married underage, using the name Lizzie Laura Unsworth. It is a bit complicated to explain, but my great-grandparents (Walter and Lizzie Smith) seem to have vanished from all census returns after their marriage in 1886. The only real link I have is Joseph Unsworth listed as her father - a schoolteacher - on their marriage certificate. Then an Elizabeth Smith,and her daughter Agnes, appear on the 1891 census in Atherton, living with her aunt Elsie Robinson, who gives her place of birth as the Isle of Man. Walter Smith was definitely underage in 1886 and just disappeared after that. My grandmother (born in 1888) would never discuss her childhood, and she died suddenly in 1953.
We know that she was living with her paternal grandfather and some aunts in Barnsley, Yorkshire in 1901. I am flying to England this coming Wednesday, and was trying to tie off some loose ends before trying parish registers etc.
