Thank you so much.
How accurate are the ages in these census's? I read that some census estimate the age and round them off.
In my family John's mother, Christian (nee: Kinley), I had found to be born in 1804 in Douglas, St George. That would mean she'd be more like 67 years in 1871. (She married her first husband, John Steele, at Marown in 1827. Her second marriage to Thomas Cain was at Braddon in 1839, and I know at least 2 of their 3 children were born in Marown - I think that would validate Christian's connection to Marown in the 1871 Census).
I'm still not sure if I'm on the right trail with this family. It gives me something to go on about Chrisian's marriage status though. Assuming she's a widow, it means her husband, Thomas Cain, died somewhere between the 1851 and 1871, and most likely after the 1861 Census.
I now know that John's wife was Jane (now I need to find her maiden name) and that she must have died in abt 1881 as there is a child born to them that year but John is noted in the 1881 census as a widow(er?).
Do you think I have enough information to assume that his family IS belonging to MY John Cain? I had been under a misconception that my John Cain had migrated to America around 1863+.
If I'm on the right track then I've been able to narrow my research down a bit.
