Re: history
In Response To: Re: history ()

Frances, I will look to see what I have. Having no experience in geneology,I can only tell you what I know to be true & what I have to corroborate what I have said. I have recently moved and have things scattered and stored. One letter I do have in ref to Joe (The Diamond King) Mylchreest. Who was my great grandfather & died in Dec. 1896 @ 59. He left 6 children (5 boys-1 girl) and a wife Phoebe. He had vast land holdings In the IOA the white house mansion & 500 acres in Kirk Michael, several farms, ships its a sizable list of lands & holdings. He owned the Kimberely diamond mines in South Africa(he held a 115 claims in Dutoitspan mine) that he sold to Cecil Rhodes who was Chairman of Debeers, & other fame such as the Rhodes Scholarship & Rhoadesia, Africa was named after him. They were friends & the sale was done in about 1888 & Joe returned to IOA. He invested heavily in IOA, was a member of the house of Keys for Peel and was a Justice of the peace. His oldest son, Tom who was 14 when he died, died himself in a motorcycle accident @ 25. I have given you things in a spattered veiw. But it is the gist, please feel free to write me, I enjoy the poking around in history & any pointers would be great. I found this web site by starting to look around not knowing how to begin a search. As I stated before my gradfather was Cecil john, and my grandmother & 9 siblings from Cork is my next venture. I have a great Aunt in England I need to contact. Any info I can give or vice versa, let me know.
Thanks, Danny
