Fact - John Cowell (my ancestor) was born in the Isle of Man in 1855. I have traced a John Cowell 19 Jul 1855 (Parents William & Catherine) and a John Cowle born 16 Sept 1855 (Parents Alexander & Jane) The latter seemed a good match and I was able to make progress on that line. Unfortunately, I was unable to find the Marriage of my ancestor in order to prove.
I have now found the marriage certificate (20 Sept 1900 in Whitehaven) of John Cowell & Sophia Cannon which shows the fathers to be John Cowell & Thomas Cannon (both deceased at the time of the marriage.
Needless to say I am now at a literal dead end.
Can anyone offer any assistance in tracing the birth of another John Cowell (parents as above) or any trace of their parents.
Note Sophia Cannon was baptised 2 Oct 1859 in the parish of Maughold (Abode Balla Sloe- parents Thomas Cannon & Elizabeth Roxborough
