Philip was from the Ballakelly family of Andreas.
Constance Radcliffe wrote:
"Ballakelly stands next to Ballaradcliffe both geographically and in respect of an early date of the entry of the Radcliffes. It is difficult to see how it received its name, for the owner in 1511 was Moris McCurry, and in 1600, Isabel Sayle, who probably became the wife of a William Radcliffe from the adjoining farm, as he (or his son) is given as the owner in 1621. So began a family occupation of 200 years, almost the first half of which (up to 1702) was that of a William Radcliffe.
In the eighteenth century, the Ballakelly Radcliffes followed each other in quick succession.
John, who died in 1712 left an heir Charles, and also three young children under 14, for whom William Radcliffe Ballasteen (i.e. Ballaradcliffe in the treen of Ballasteen or Ballahestine) was appointed an overseer."

"When Philip, a younger brother, died intestate in 1756, the estates of his parents who had died two years earlier had not been settled.
Philip was supposed to have received £5 from his father and a black cow from his
mother, and these had now to be divided, the £5 between the "brothers and sisters
by the father's side" (including the half-brother William), and the cow between
the brothers and sisters by the mother's side." The father Philip willed to his
son and heir William, "his half of the team (viz the two bullocks that used to
be on the outside)" and said to him, as reported by the witnesses "you have now
the Crop and team, and you can plow & Thom can drive & work ye ground this year
together. William was "to oversee his children that they should not be wrong'd
