I had a look on Commonwealth War Graves site: www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/ and found an Albert Craig who died 7.5.1918, aged 34, serving with the RE, but he had a wife in Sunderland. It might be worth checking all names - Palmer, Craig and Quine. He may have still been alive when his mother died, but his step-father may have "helped" her make her will!
