Ballachrink/Sandy Road
In Response To: IoM property owners 1876 ()

Asylum Plan #369 refers to one of the long narrow properties on the east side of Bowring Road (formerly Sandy Road) between the Coburg Road junction on the north and the Windsor Road junction on the south.
The holding was part of Fayle's Croft, later Howland's; which became divided in 2 by the construction of the new road c 1781. These long narrow plots on the east side originated immediately through the subdivision of John Howland (weaver's) Croft among the younger children of H.owland. They were Patrick, Elinor, Margaret and Isabel Howland.
I think Margaret Sutherland's property was on the site of 40 Bowring Road, because the next property to the south, No. 38 was twice the size of her plot, and is the only one to retain its original proportion of 1/12th share of Howland's Croft, and to retain the original double fronted cottage of about 1820. Is it possible that Margaret was a descendant of the Howlands?
