Re: The Cretneys of Lezayre
In Response To: Re: The Cretneys of Lezayre ()

I cannot find a link at present, having a bit of trouble with making some of the links with my island ancestors. It seems my family left the island in the mid-1850's and set up camp in Manchester/Salford, Lancashire. Got most of them sorted out but going back to beginning of 1800's is proving a trial! My great great grandfather was Thomas Cretney b. 1813 in Lezayre who married in 1841 an Ann Eliza Murray b. 1813. His father appears to be John Cretney b. 1783 in Lezayre who married Ann Corlett also in Lezayre in 1808. Prior to this information, I am a little confused. An IGI search shows a James Cretney b. 1741 marrying a Margaret Fargher but no marriage recorded except for a JOHN Cretneyand a Margaret Fargher, but the family group record fits in with John Cretney Junior's birth date. This couple also are recorded as being of Marown although Margaret is recorded as having been buried in Lezayre. If this fits with anyone else's studies, please enlighten me!!!
