I'm working on the Ramsey Kaighins and would like a lookup for any Kaighens living in Ramsey in the 1841 Census. I believe there are four or five families there in 1841. I have a partial sketch of this family as well as the following from Constance Radcliffe:
'In the 1841 Census, only two heads of households in the whole of Ramsey are described as "fishermen", although 30 were "mariners" or "sailors". Both fishermen were elderly men: Joseph Townley, aged 75, in Strand Street, and John Looney, aged 70, in Maughold Street... Two other young fishermen living in their mother's house in Strand Street were John and Thomas Kaighen, whose parents, Thomas and Catherine, had been resident in the town since at least 1823. The younger Thomas became the first coxswain of the Lifeboat "Two Sisters", a position later held (1883-90) by his eldest son, also Thomas. In 1887, there were three Kaighen brothers, Thomas, Joseph and Robert, in the Lifeboat crew, continuing a tradition of public service for which this old Ramsey family is still known....'
Thank you.
