Re: CANEPA SURNAME
In Response To: Re: CANEPA SURNAME ()

Having received several requests concerning the Canepa family in the past year I re-read the article posted in MN.

1881 census entry for Joseph - the age is clearly stated as 54 (not 57) and his occupation is "mariner". (Daniel Green, 15, is boarding with the family.)

Using family names the would appear to be the same Joseph that appears in the 1861 and 1871 censuses as 8 and 18 and in the 1891 census as 37 when he is recorded as a "pleasure boat proprietor and fisherman".

In 1871 his mother's name is given as Alice, a widow aged 39.

In 1861 his mother's name is given as Alice, the daughter of John & Ellen Green.

In 1851 Alice Canepa, 18, is living with her parents. John Green was a gunsmith.

Lazarus does not appear in any Manx census and none shows a husband for Alice.
