There has been some discussion recently re marriage certificates etc.
Civil registrtion began in 1878.
From that date on all marriages should be recorded at the Registrar General and certificates will be available.
Between 1849 and 1878 many non-conforming marriages were registered and certificates are availabel.
The Registrar General has indices to all marriages. The indices up to about 1960 are available on LDS microfilms. Unfortunately, in the majority of cases (prior to about 1925) only the groom's name is given.
(I have not completed analysis of these films so can't be more precise at the moment.)
In addition, the LDS were able to film the C of E entries for the period 1884-1911. These films show the full certificate.
