Re: Fargher/Faragher
In Response To: Re: Fargher/Faragher ()

The two possible Christian Farghers:

1. Christian dau of Edmond Fargher & Mary Kerruish bapt Maughold 23 Feb 1812.

[Census sent by Brian Lawson]:
1841, Maughold, district 2, page 7, Ballaskeg veg
Edmund Fargher, 65, farmer
Thomas, 25
Edmunnd, 20, journeyman joiner
Mary, 60
Abigail, 25, straw bonnet maker
Jane, 20
Christian, 30, independent
Mary Kerruish, 15, apprentice dressmaker
William Moore, 5

William son of William Moore & Christian Fargher was bapt Maughold 24 Aug 1834.

William Moore & Christian Fargher married 28 Dec 1833. [Both of Maughold.]
Christian MOORE aged 38 of Old Cross, Ramsey, was buried Maughold 12 Apr 1850.

2. Christian dau of Thomas Fargher & Margaret Cannell bapt Maughold 11 Sep 1813.

John Moore & Christian Fargher married 20 Aug 1828. "John from Marown or Saint Ann" (Santan).

[From Brian]:
1851, Santan, district 1, schedule 5, Sulbrick
John Moore, head, married, 53, farmer of 131 acres, Santan
Christian, wife, married, 37, Maughold
Thomas, son, unmarried, 20, Santan
John, son, unmarried, 17, Santan
Margaret, daughter, unmarried, 16, Santan
William, son, unmarried, 12, scholar, Santan
Isabella, daughter, unmarried, 11, scholar, Santan
Catherine, daughter, unmarried, 9, scholar, Santan
Edward R, son, unmarried, 7, Santan
Henry, son, unmarried, 4, Santan

So it looks as though it was Christian (dau of Thomas Fargher) who married the Santan John Moore, as Len suggests.

She was very young at marriage, wasn't she? Only 14, which is why I missed her before.

Her parents Thomas Fargher and Margaret Cannell married in Maughold 23 Apr 1793. Margaret had guardians' consent [which indicates that she too was underage]. Dau Margaret bapt 1795, son Thomas bapt 1797, Robert bapt 1800, William bapt 1802 (buried 1803), Joney bapt 1804, John bapt 1808, then Christian 1813.

Thomas FARGHER of Balla Fayle buried Maughold Mar 26 1827.
If you order his will: FARGHER, Thomas 1827 Maughold Arch no.46 LDS film no. 0106245 it should confirm the relationships.

Christian's mother could have been Margaret bapt Maughold 27 Sept.1772, dau of Robt CANNEL & Mary CALLOW.
Robt CANNELL buried Maughold Jun 24 1781.

It looks as though both Thomas and Edmond Fargher were sons of Thomas Fargher & Jony Callow of Ballafayle, Maughold. There is a section about the family in Constance Radcliffe's book 'History of Kirk Maughold'.

You can see how the estate was inherited by Thomas Fargher in this will online at http://www3.telus.net/lawson/twill/1766_009.html
