I'm researching Wattleworth/Christian families in the Maughold area on behalf of a descendant.
He descends from Ann (1822-96), who settled in Conwy, daughter of Thomas Christian (recorded as schoolmaster in his daughter's 1852 marriage record) & Elinor Wattleworth (b.1785), [of Ballachrink 1822?], Ramsey. I have no info on Thomas Christian's ancestry, the name being too common to trace without further info, but Elinor Wattleworth's grandparents were:-
(1) John Wattleworth (dd.1784 Will, Gravestone) Maughold = (1734 Lezayre) Margaret Quayle (1712-57 Will) d. John Quayle & Mary Cannell etc.
(2) Ewan Christian (dd.1810? Will) Maughold = (1748 Maughold) Elinor Cowle (c.1727-92 Will, Gravestone) perhaps d.o. William Cowle & Catherine Lowny.
I've ruled out (IGI) John (Bapt.1703 Maughold) son of John Wattleworth (1683-1728 Will) Maughold & Elizabeth Quayle, as this was apparently John Wattleworth (1703-94 Will, Gravestone) Bride/The Curragh, Lezayre (= Bride 1753) Catherine Castyl.
The trouble is that this leaves me with no possible parents for the other John Wattleworth, that I can spot anyway, amongst Manx records (IGI), although I suppose there may be gaps. I presume that he was born c.1695-1715.
As regards the other grandfather, Ewan Christian (dd.1810?) Maughold, does anyone have post-1800 Maughold cemetery records which - if there is an MI, presumably the same as his wife - might show his age at death. There was an Ewan s.o. John Christian & Joney bapt.1733 Maughold, but this seems a bit late given that he married in 1748 - age at death might resolve this. Obviously looking for a link to the main Maughold Christian line.
Any help appreciated.
Booise.
