Re: Jane/Jack Smith
In Response To: Re: Jane/Jack Smith ()

Hi Marie
Thanks for the information it is the most I have been able to find in almost 4 years. The info I have is
Patrick Clifford married Jane (dont know maiden name) both from ireland married. with children Catherine born ireland and Mary Ann born 1864 IOM. In the census of 1871 Jane Clifford is detailed as widow aged 38 with daughters Catherine 11 Mary Ann 7. In the 1881 census I have been advised there is only 1 Clifford on the island and that is Mary Ann aged 17 working as servant at the Shakespeare Hotel, Victoria Street, Douglas. Patrick obviously died (no info) yet Jane and Catherine seemed to have disappeared.
It was interesting reading your response that the godparents of Patrick Cunningham and Mary Ann child John was a patrick and Jane Watterson. You dont think this Jane may be the mother of Mary Ann and she re-married?
One other strange thing is that there is a death registry for Patrick Cunningham in 1889 but the age is given as 49 yet we think he was only 27.
May Ann re-married around 1893 to Tomas Edward Creer.

Any further help you could give me regarding Jane Cunningham who was my Great Aunt would be most appreciated.

Hope you can maybe make some sense of all this, it is such a mystery.

Regards
