The trouble is you lose the thread then. When the original drops off the default index page listing in a couple of days time - a new posting will re-appear at the top of the list without the bulk, but retaining the references to previous messages (I hope!).

I will remember to make a posting at the time to ensure this happens since the whole thing was my fault in the first place!.
