Hello,
This is my second visit to this list after receiving some great help in 2003. I was hoping to come to the Island to photograph a family monument in the Braddon new burial ground but this may not happen now. Could the list advise how I could get a monument photo at the Braddon cemetery. The details provided were New Burial ground section one block one grave 513 buried 2 Jan 1867.
The person buried was my GGGrandUncle Rev James Shaw Sillars who was a minister in Douglas for a short period until he died aged 29 of TB.
I recently obtained information from a book written about his short life. Apparently the last meeting he addressed before his death was at the Athole Street Independant Chapel. An extract from 'Memorials of James Shaw Sillars' by Alexander Andrew.
"On the following Sabbah evening, a large assemblage gathered in St George's Hall, where Mr Dunlop addressed them in suitable terms, on the event which had taken place. Many could not help shedding bitter tears of regret, that a young life so promising had been so soon and suddenly cut off"
